Penn Station Kicks Off the 2009-10 Season
DAYTON, Ohio August 27, 2009 – Penn Station embarks on its 11th year of recognizing student athletes and high schools in the Greater Dayton area. Penn Station launched the “Athlete of the Month” program to showcase the extraordinary student athletes, scholastic achievement, and good citizenship in Dayton. Since its inception in 1998, Penn Station East Coast Subs has awarded nearly $95,000 in award money and college scholarships. So far, 88 Dayton area students have received “Athlete of the Month” recognition and ten have been awarded $5,000 college scholarships.
Penn Station Dayton Managing Owner John Dorger said the concept of the program began in the late 1990s as a way to give back to the community that has supported Penn Station for 20 years. “When the program was launched, no one anticipated the impact it would have on so many lives. From the students, their parents and the school administrators, to the Penn Station family of employees, we’ve seen kids blossom into adults and have thoroughly enjoyed hearing about their accomplishments each year.”
In honor of each monthly winner’s achievement as the Penn Station Athlete of the Month (PSAM) each student’s picture will be displayed in all area Dayton Penn Station restaurants, they will receive personalized coupons for the entire student body. They also will be featured on the www.psdayton.com website and will be in the running towards a $5,000 college scholarship to be awarded at the end of the school year. The High School will also receive a $500 check to support the ongoing success of its programs.
Be sure to nominate a senior in your school by visiting any Dayton Penn Station restaurant or logon to www.psdayton.com, www.wdtn.com, www.hot102.9.com, or www.fly929.com.
